Awareness Session for Adolescent Girls on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Occasion: As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign
1. Introduction
As part of its commitment to promoting health and social awareness among adolescent girls, and to spreading a culture of respect for women’s rights and combating all forms of gender-based violence, Human Network organized a special awareness session for girls at one of the schools in the governorate. This activity comes within the framework of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign.
2. Session Details
Target group: 30 adolescent schoolgirls
Venue: A school in the governorate
Implementing party: Human Network – supervised and conducted by a specialized female doctor
3. Session Topics
1. Physical and bodily changes during puberty
Explanation of natural physical changes girls experience.
Education on reproductive health and the basics of self-care.
2. Principles of combating gender-based violence
Defining violence and its various forms.
Raising awareness about girls’ rights and the importance of respecting them without discrimination.
3. Harms of early marriage and its health and social impacts
Discussion of the health, psychological, and social risks resulting from early marriage.
4. Harassment and methods of prevention and protection
Explaining different forms of harassment and how to respond and report it.
Strengthening girls’ self-confidence and encouraging them to seek support.
4. Accompanying Activities
Distribution of “girls’ health kits” containing personal and health awareness materials.
Providing a safe and supportive space for girls to ask questions and share concerns.
5. Session Management
The session was led by a specialized doctor with experience in reproductive health and adolescent education, which contributed to delivering information in a simplified and age-appropriate manner.
6. Achieved Results
Increased health awareness among girls about puberty and reproductive health.
Enhanced understanding of their basic rights and the importance of combating violence.
Improved ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe behaviors and to protect themselves.
Positive engagement and clear appreciation from participants.
7. Recommendations
Continue organizing periodic awareness sessions in schools.
Expand the activities to reach more schools and areas.
Integrate additional psychosocial empowerment programs for adolescent girls.
